Barbies and Ballerinas

My girls are seriously the girliest little girls I’ve ever met, while at the same time being some of the most unapologetic tomboys I know. For my youngest daughter’s fifth birthday, she wanted nothing more than Barbies. Just tons of Barbies everywhere. She literally got seventeen new Barbies for her birthday.

I’m surrounded.

After that party, all I’ve heard about is how much she loves Barbies. So, when we got Barbie and the Pink Shoes in the mail, she nearly passed out from excitement. To see her favorite childhood icon put on a pair of pink ballet slippers and dance Swan Lake….there is no greater joy to her little heart.

To me, the movie was awesome because I knew that a real ballerina was behind all of the moves in the movie. Check out this interview I did with Jenelle Manzi, the ballerina behind Barbie’s moves in Barbie and the Pink Shoes.

Share Breakfast with Kellogg’s

Every single morning, our house goes pretty much the same way…

GIRLS!! For the seventeenth time…you MUST get out of bed!!!!

But MOMMY….I’m SO tired!!!

This continues for approximately 15 minutes. Until I remember the one line that gets them out of bed 9 times out of 10:

If you want breakfast, you’d better get up!

All of a sudden, two little girls are ready for breakfast and making their requests. If they don’t get breakfast before they leave the house, they are not going to be happy. It’s my job to attempt to get them to eat a healthy breakfast. I’ve replaced most of our junk breakfasts with healthier choices. It not only helps them, but gets me making better choices, too.

Shoot, when I was a kid, if I didn’t eat breakfast, my stomach basically tried to jump out of my body during study hall, so I never missed breakfast either (the sounds my stomach made were simply embarrassing!).

The Share Breakfast Movement

Do you realize that 1 in 5 kids go without breakfast every day? That 20% of kids that aren’t getting that ever-so-important start to the day. That’s why Kellogg’s does their annual Share Breakfast campaign – to make sure as many kids as possible get a healthy breakfast to start their day.

For each view, share and comment on the Kellogg’s Share Breakfast public service announcement, Kellogg’s will share breakfast with a child in need.

You can also help by sharing this on Facebook, Twitter or Pinterest. Breakfast is a vital part of every kid’s morning routine and we can’t afford to sit by and watch when Kellogg’s is making sharing breakfast with these kids so darn easy!

Disclosure: I participated in a campaign on behalf of Mom Central Consulting for Kellogg’s. I received a product sample as well as a promotional item as a thank-you for participating.

Tarantino’s new film: another smash hit in the making?

He may not be the most prolific director in the world of film, but whenever Quentin Tarantino has a new production out, the world watches in anticipation. Known for his captivating scenes and iconic work, his latest film, Django Unchained, sits in well in his portfolio, being smart, bloody and ever-so-slightly offbeat. But could it become another box office smash?

The story of Django Unchained follows the slave Django (played by former Oscar winner Jamie Foxx), who is surprisingly freed by a bounty hunter (Christoph Waltz). Django is then trained up by the bounty hunter to try and locate and catch criminals, but he then leads him back to the plantation in order to take on his former owner and rescue his wife.

Calvin Candie (Leonardo DiCaprio), the owner of the plantation, is the target of Django and the bounty hunter’s anger, but doesn’t go down without a fight. The evil Candie prepares himself for a stand-off that could be explosive. Calvin Candie is a wickedly inhumane plantation owner in the pre-Civil War South. DiCaprio questioned the script at points, asking “Are we going too far?”.

In spite of the fact that the film was only recently released, Django Unchained has been heralded by many as one of Tarantino’s best films. Some of the reviews suggest that it could become a hit at all the major award ceremonies, with two Golden Globes in the bag for Waltz as Best Supporting Actor and Tarantino for Best Screenplay already in the bag.

Numerous nominations for BAFTAs and Oscars have also been received in various categories, with Tarantino himself gaining the bulk of them. While success on the red carpet doesn’t always translate into people going to watch the movie at the cinema, it does suggest that the film has something going for it.

In the lead role, Jamie Foxx will be under a lot of scrutiny, especially because of his previous work. As he’s received some of the biggest accolades in film for his performance in Ray, this role may be a departure for him.

As for DiCaprio, playing Candie is an unusual role for him, but one he should do well in. There’s every chance that he could star in more thrillers akin to ‘Gangs of New York’ after starring in this production.

Django Unchained is what many fans of Tarantino’s previous work will come to expect – a complex plot, thrills every minute, great performances from the entire cast and a cool soundtrack. All that and more will make this film a must-see for anyone wanting to shake off the winter gloom or for any aficionados of Tarantino.
