Last week, I was sick. We’re talking “can’t get out of bed because I might throw up all over the floor and then die” sick. I couldn’t count on anything that day because I felt so out of it. But, there was one thing I could count on….Around 10am and 4pm I got two text messages. One from my friend Shannon and one from my friend Lindsay. “Do you need me to bring you anything?”
I get these messages every time I am out of work because of an illness (whether it’s me, the girls or hubby that’s sick). Now, I know that it seems a simple gesture but it’s a gesture that I hold dear to my heart. I’ve never experienced people like I am experiencing now. I’ve never had that feeling that if something were to happen, I would always have someone I could call in the middle of the night for help or just to talk. I’ve had close friends before, don’t get me wrong. But those friends live far away and can’t be much help to me here. But, I have about 5 people now that I know I could call on, day or night, no matter what and that is a very warm, comforting feeling.
So, today, I want to say to Shannon, Lindsay, Ted, Stacey and David….Thank you. Thank you for making me feel like I have a much larger family than blood can provide. I love each of you as if you were my brothers and sisters and I honestly don’t know how I would have made it through some of my recent tough times without you. You may not even know how much you helped me, but the laughter that we’ve shared over these past few years has gotten me through so much and I’m grateful.
And, to my best friend…my husband…I owe you more than a Thank You. You have saved my life and made me feel alive and there are no words to express how much I love you. You truly are my best friend and I’m thankful for that.
So, who are your best friends and have you told them that you’re thankful for them lately?

Isn’t it great to find “true” friends that you know will be there for you no matter what? Good for you for finding them!

How wonderful that you have these people in your life! I don’t have anyone near by like that. But, Angie, your first commentor, would drop everything and drive the 600 miles to my house if I called her and told her that I needed her. And I would do the same for her.
Thanks for linking up!

Some of the best family I have isn’t the one I was born into but the ones I have acquired along the way! Great Post!!

Right now I actually live half the time with one of my best friends and the other half of the time with the other (depending on what state I feel like being in that time) and I’ve been making a real effort to let them know how much I love and appreciate them. I think sometimes, since I’ve known them both for more than 10 years, it gets easy to assume they know how I feel–but I think everyone wants to hear it from time to time!

I know how you feel and it’s wonderful to have friends that are like family. We have that here too. We moved away for about three years and I was absolutely lost. Needless to say, we moved back.
Great post!

That’s really nice of you. I just went on vacation with my BFF and I’m constantly bummed that we don’t get to see each other very often.
I’m a new follower via Mami’s blog. Nice to ‘meet’ you.
