My kids are addicted to yogurt

We have a winner for this giveaway! Congratulations to Alicia!

Ever since my girls have been able to eat solid foods, they have loved yogurt. I have to buy yogurt nearly every time we do our regular shopping. I know this is a review of something I got for free, but please hear me when I tell you this because it is 100% true – My kids will only eat Yoplait yogurt. They love the Trix flavors, but they also get the Yoplait Kids flavors every once in awhile. They love the strawberry yogurt!

To them, it’s a snack that tastes great. To me, it’s a snack that is wholesome and nutritious for their little growing bodies. I even got the chance to interview Christina Coppa about snacking secrets.

Christine Coppa, the wildly popular mom blogger and Yoplait Kids spokesperson is best known for her Mama’s Boy blog at Parenting.com and as the author of Rattled! available at Amazon.com (Broadway Books, 2009).

Q&A with Christina Coppa

Q. How can a working parent make time for healthy food – for the entire family?

A. I’m careful about what I buy when I go grocery shopping and I always go to the store with a list. I think it’s a good idea to go in with a game plan – you’ll save money and make better choices. When you only keep healthy food in the house, it’s much easier to make sure everyone gets what they need. I also prep snacks and meals when I have a quiet few minutes – Sunday afternoons, or after dinner – that way we can just grab and go!

Q. Some moms (maybe me) resort to telling their kids that raisins are “candy” or something along those lines. Do you think that is a good idea or should we be honest with our kids about what they’re eating and run the risk of them not eating it?

A. I’m pretty up front with JD. However, there are some easy ways to strike a balance between offering your child a snack that you know is nutritious and a snack your child will think is fun and cool.

JD first got excited about the Yoplait Kids yogurt because the cups featured his favorite character from the movie ‘Cars’. Once he tried it, he found that it tasted great too. Now he loves to dip carrots in yogurt and thinks the ’hands on’ snack is fun. It’s a win-win!  We also like to count snacks as we eat them and JD loves when I cut apple slices to look like little racecars.

Q. Is it really true that if my kids don’t eat great now, that they never will? Are moms ruining their future by slacking off?

A.  I believe it’s important for me to set a good example. So, I eat when he does.  When JD sees me having a healthy snack, he wants to do the same. As a result, my son loves all of the usual kid staples like raisins, crackers, and carrots with hummus, cheese-flavored rice cakes, frozen juice ice pops, cheese sticks and yogurt.

I also think it’s a good idea to change things up so that JD has an opportunity to try new things and develop his taste buds. I offer him the foods I know he likes with some more unfamiliar choices, so that he learns to be an adventurous eater.

Q. What is your son’s favorite snack?

A. These days JD’s favorite snack is Yoplait Kids yogurt and I feel good about giving it to him because it has 25% less sugar than the leading kids’ yogurt and is an excellent source of calcium and vitamin D.

*Yoplait Kids has 9 grams of sugar per 3oz. The leading kids’ yogurt has 13 grams of sugar per 3oz.

Giveaway!

Yep, there’s a giveaway. We haven’t had one of those here in awhile, so make sure you get in on this one.

The Prize

The Yoplait Kids prize pack includes a coupon for Yoplait Kids yogurt, a foldable travel cooler (to take your yogurt on-the-go), a cool four-piece spoon set, a power magnet picture frame, trendy alphabet-shaped “Kiddie Bands”, a great big bounce ball and a “My First Scavenger Hunt” card game for some after-snack fun. There will be one (1) winner for this prize pack.

How to enter

Since I don’t do giveaways very often here anymore, I’m going to make this one super simple. Just leave me a comment telling me your favorite snack to give your kids (or their favorite snack – you know they’re not the same).

That’s it! I’ll pick a winner next Friday, April 1st (no April Fools here). That winner will have 48 hours to email me back to confirm.
