Idol might be putting it too lightly, really. If Anthony Bourdain were to take on a sidekick, my husband would likely cry from happiness at the mere thought. (Okay, so maybe it’s not that bad, but you get the idea.)
We have seen nearly every episode of No Reservations and even the new show, The Layover. The hubby watches one show or the other nearly every night before going to sleep. Oh, I’m familiar with Mr. Bourdain and his travel foodie ways. Someday, when I win the lottery, I, too, will travel the globe in search of the best foods and most exotic places. Until then, I will continue to live vicariously through him.
Anthony Bourdain: No Reservations Collection 6 Part 2
In this collection of the Emmy-winning series, Anthony Bourdain continues to traverse the globe and discover other people and cultures through their cuisines. From chowing down on ox tails in Madrid during the World Cup to sampling Pakistani dishes and skiing indoors in Dubai, Tony always finds the new and exciting in every destination he travels to.
Throughout the 2 DVDs in the set, we follow Anthony Bourdain through Liberia, Dubai, Rome, Madrid, India, Paris and Beirut. The best part of the 100th episode – aptly titled “What Were We Thinking.” It’s like a “behind the scenes” look at the show from the very first episode through all of the other 99 episodes. I really love seeing Tony talking about the show from his perspective – all the while ripping other “celebrity chefs” a new one without ever blinking an eye.
Every episode of No Reservations follows Anthony Bourdain as he travels the world and dives into more than just the food – he also explores the culture of the country or city that he’s visiting. This is not your typical food show or travel show. It’s the perfect combination of the two genres. There are a lot of travel food shows on TV now, but none of them match up to what Anthony Bourdain creates. His monologues throughout the show give No Reservations its attitude which is what makes it what it is.
