~*~*~
As a member of the UbiChamps team this year, I will be reviewing some of the newest and hottest games from UbiSoft. First up is the newest member of the Just Dance family - Just Dance: Disney Party.
My girls watch Disney Jr. pretty much every day and they love Disney movies (when they’re not scared of them), so I thought this game sounded like a perfect match for our family. The girls were excited to give it a go and I was excited to try the new position of our Kinect since we mounted our TV and the Kinect is now higher than before. I figured it would be able to recognize the girls better this time around (I was right).
Menu Navigation
The menu for the game is very simple. It’s easy as deciding how you want to play and holding up your hand. Selecting a song was also pretty easy. We started out with one of the suggested playlists, which had 9 of the easiest songs the game had (I was playing with a 4 and 6-year-old, cut me some slack). There are a ton of playlists, including a separate playlist for several different languages!
Song Selection
There are 25 different songs that range from classic Disney (“Under the Sea”) to Disney Channel Originals (“This is Me” from Camp Rock) to the most famous Disney Parks song of all (“It’s A Small World”). There were plenty of songs that my girls recognized and a few that were brand new to us. As a matter of fact, I have a few shows that I want to check out now after hearing the music.
Gameplay
The best part of this game, for me, was that it was able to support up to four players. That means that our entire family can get up and play together! The girls love playing these kinds of games with Mommy and Daddy, so that was a real bonus. The only confusing thing was that, in each song, there are one to three different people on the screen (no matter how many people you have playing) and we weren’t sure which one each of us was supposed to be following (the “background” dancers sometimes had different moves). There is no instruction booklet or anything to explain, so maybe we’re just not smart enough but it would have been nice to see that explained (especially when little kids are playing on their own).
Bonus Features
While the game itself is pretty fun, there are a few extra features that make Just Dance: Disney Party an awesome experience. There is a “Just Create” section of the game that lets kids star in their own music videos and create their own dances. I’m sure we’ll be doing a lot of playing with that feature alone!
The game also has a separate section for Parents. One great feature there is that I can create a custom playlist with all of my girls’ favorite songs so I don’t have to constantly help them choose from the songs available. It really makes it easy to let your kids have a blast without having to constantly be right there to control the song selection for them.
Final Thoughts
In the end, I would say this game will provide our family with a lot of fun. The girls loved the music and the songs are short enough that they can make it through several before they wear out! Also, they are going to have a blast creating music videos! Just Dance: Disney Party gets a big thumbs up from me!
