Starting 2013 by Kicking the Sugar Habit

I have already told you my 2013 New Years Resolutions. I mentioned that I am looking to lose another 10 pounds, but that’s not my only motivation. I also want to kick some of these habits that have been holding me back. My addiction to sugar and carbs has been my biggest deterrent to losing weight. I love sugar and carbs too much and have refused to give them up thinking I could get my idea body back without changing the overall way I eat.

No more.

As of tomorrow, January 1, 2013, I will be taking part in the 21 Day Sugar Detox. I watched as Rhea lost almost 100 pounds on the Paleo diet, but she started it all by kicking her addiction to sugar and carbs using this same 21-Day Sugar Detox.

The 21-Day Sugar Detox

I have downloaded the book, read it front to back (and then some more) and I’m ready to kick this habit! Starting tomorrow, Diet Coke is hitting the curb and I’m taking on the water again. For a solid 21 days, I will be eating a diet devoid of sugars, carbs and sweeteners. It’s somewhat of a Paleo diet, but I’m not versed enough on Paleo to know if it fits strictly with in the mold (or even if there is a mold).

I’ll try to check in here daily with my progress and maybe even do a video diary of the 21 days. I foresee headaches and lots of grumpiness in my future, but at the end, I look forward to not craving sweets and carbs 24/7 and finally getting over this plateau again!

The 21-Day Sugar Detox

If you want to join me in this challenge, let me know in the comments below and I’ll follow-up with you to make sure we’re both staying on track! You can also join the 21-Day Sugar Detox Facebook community for additional support.

By the way, this is not a promotional post (although there are affiliate links included) nor am I being compensated by the 21-Day Sugar Detox folks in any way. I bought the book with my own money and just want to share the challenge with you!

  2. good for you. when I do things to cut our sugar and kill yeast I tend to feel the best. and I don;’t crave sugar then. sugar is very inflammatory to the body and inflammation is the cause of all of our aches and pains and illnesses. It won’t cure everything, but you can see that if you reduce your inflammation you will start to feel better.

  3. Are you cutting out added sugars but still eating natural ones, like fruits? I’m planning to cut way down, but I don’t know if I can eliminate them all the way with the hubs.

Nope, it’s all cut out. No fruit (but you can modify) or any sweets at all. It’s HARD but not impossible.

  4. GO LYNDSAY!! You can totally do this.

And yes…this Sugar Detox is very Paleo. But, once you are done, you can continue on Paleo and add back in some healthier sweet treats once in a while that use different sugars (like coconut sugar, honey, etc). You won’t really need it though cuz you will have kicked the cravings :)

  5. I too need to kick the sugar cravings I picked up over the past couple of months. I can’t believe how addictive I’ve become again! I’ve done this before, so I think I can do it again. But, I’m needing some support. So, I’m also eliminating white flour which just feeds into my sugar cravings, diet sodas which cause weight gain and focusing on drinking pure healthy water and lots of it!
Looking forward to seeing how everyone does! Cher

“Thank you Diane! I finished my 21 days yesterday. I am down 18lbs, 5% bodyfat and a full pant size. I am up in energy and brain function! Today I’m on the hunt for some good cherries as my reward. Still don’t want the sugar or carbs and will continue with Paleo forever and ever. Getting my family to change slowly too. Almost can’t wait until the July 11 group!” Jeanne H.

  7. You are so inspiring! I just watched a documentary today on our addictions to every little thing…sugar, diet soda, cigarettes, everything! It is really scary when you think about it. I am going now to read your posts on your sugar detox!
