“Etched…Upon My Heart: What We Learn and Why We Never Forget” by Jill Kelly {Review & Giveaway}

I’ve been looking for a few good books to read, so I decided to start accepting a few book reviews. By doing that, I can try out lots of different books and then I get to tell you all what I think of them! The first of these several book reviews is Etched…Upon My Heart: What We Learn and Why We Never Forget by Jill Kelly. You might not know who Jill Kelly is, but you should.

About the Book

New York Times best-selling author Jill Kelly shares deeply personal experiences as a mother trying to make every moment count, against the backdrop of trying circumstances in Etched…Upon My Heart: What We Learn and Why We Never Forget. “This book is everything I hope my daughters eventually learn, always remember, and never forget. It’s everything I would share with you, woman to woman and mother to mother.”

About the Author

Jill Kelly is the wife of former Buffalo Bills quarterback Jim Kelly. In September 1997, months after their infant son, Hunter, was diagnosed with a fatal disease called Krabbe Leukodustrophy, Jim and Jill founded the Hunter’s Hope Foundation. As chairman of the board of Hunter’s Hope, Jill helps children suffering from Leukodystrophy, and their families by raising awareness and research funds to fight this devastating disease. She and Jim live in Buffalo, NY, with their two daughters and three dogs. Hunter’s Hope Foundation can be found online at www.HuntersHope.org. Jill is also the author of Without A Word.

My Thoughts

Etched…Upon My Heart is written as though you are sitting in Jill’s home, just having a heart-to-heart with a friend. She basically tells us her life’s most trying moments and how God was working in her life the whole time (even if she wasn’t aware at the time). Her searing honesty is something to be recognized as she shares some of life’s most intimate moments.

While some of these experiences she shares may seem like they wouldn’t be life-changing, many of them are experiences we can all relate to. At the same time, she has been through some of the hardest things life could possibly offer. Hearing how she has managed to not only survive, but thrive in her faith is a true testament to the love and trust she has in God.

Any Christian woman and mother can take away a lot of wonderful things from this book and I highly recommend it. I would especially recommend it to a woman going through life’s hard times and looking for ways to understand God’s love and mercy through it all.
